Hillsdale Box ScoreClermont, Fla. – Adding three more wins to their spring break total, the Northern State University softball team improves to 10-5 overall. The Wolves compiled wins over Quincy University (2-1), West Liberty University (3-2), and Hillsdale College (3-2). Northern's morning match-up with Bentley University on March 12
th, was cancelled due to wet field conditions.
Game one – Quincy University The Hawks held Northern scoreless through the first four innings of play. With the Wolves trailing by one in the fifth inning,
Katie Dawson led off with a single to centerfield.
Katelynn Dilts stepped to the plate for NSU and advanced
Michaela Liebl, who pinch ran for Dawson, to second base on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Liebl later came around to score of a
Lauren Kunz single to right field.
Northern went on to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kalie Maiden started the NSU rally with a walk.
Eryn Yancy scored Maiden for her 15
th RBI of the season with a double to left center.
Kami Smesmo held the fighting QU Hawks in the bottom of the inning, with two runners on base, forcing a groundout to second basemen
Kelsey Gale. Smesmo notched her fifth win of the season throwing a complete seven innings for the Wolves. She notched one strikeout, while giving up one earned run in the win.
Dawson led NSU with two hits in the game, while Yancy, Kunz, and
Rachel Albright recorded a hit apiece.
Game two – West Liberty University The Wolves went down early in game number two of the day giving up two runs in the second and third to the Hilltoppers.
Courtney Moore tallied her first RBIs of the season in the fourth, with a double to left, scoring
Mackenzie Thielen and
Michaela Liebl. Northern had tied up the game heading into the final three innings of play.
Eryn Yancy sealed the lead for NSU in the fifth, knocking her sixth homerun of the season to left. The one run lead held, as
Missy Elkins put the Hilltoppers down in the sixth and seven. Elkins notched her third win of the season with three strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

Macey Engel and
Kalie Maiden, and freshmen
Katie Dawson notched the other three hits for the Wolves in the win.
Game three – Hillsdale College After four scoreless innings of the play, the Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two homeruns.
Macey Engel led off the inning with a bomb to left for her second long ball of the season. Just two batters later,
Brittney Lash belted on of her own and the first of her NSU career.
NSU added their third run of the game in the next inning, started by
Rachel Albright with a single to left.
Katelynn Dilts recorded an infield single in the next at bat, followed by Engel with her second hit of the day. Macey's single to center scored pinch runner
Mackenzie Thielen and gave the Wolves the three run lead.
Hillsdale fought back in the top of the seventh, however NSU ace
Kami Smesmo worked her way out of the two out jam. A single and two run homerun to center brought HC within one of the Wolves, before Smesmo threw a groundball out to end the game. The win marked Smesmo's sixth of the season, as she struck out four Hillsdale batters in the process.
The Wolves head into their final day of play from the NTC games tomorrow with match-ups against Ohio Dominican and No. 7 West Chester.
