Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team dropped a hard fought battle to the No. 4 Vikings of Augustana College, 87-98 on the road. The Wolves fall to 18-5 overall and 12-5 in Northern Sun Conference play.
Tydan Storrusten led the Wolves on the night with 18 points, going 6-for-11 from the floor. He was followed by
Spencer Pankonin with 17 points and four rebounds.
DJ Pollard was the final NSU starter in double-digit points with 12 on the night.
The Wolves out-shot the Vikings 57.1-to-50.8 percent in the game, however four more made three point baskets were the difference.
Seth Bachand racked up fouls early in the game, sending him to the NSU bench. Bachand finished with six points and four rebounds in seven minutes of play.
Northern fought back to take the lead in the second half, however was unable to hold on as Augustana broke away with just under three minutes remaining.
Skye Warwick came up big for the Wolves, dropping a long range three, just feet off the half-court line, with only seconds remaining on the shot clock. Warwick put the Wolves up by three on the play heading into the under ten minute media timeout.
Northern compiled 36 bench points off the backs of Pankonin,
Darin Peterka and
Justin Decker. Peterka and Decker tallied eight and seven points respectively in the game.
Mitch White finished the game with seven points and three rebounds.
The NSU men will be back action tomorrow against Wayne State College on the road. Game time is set for 6 p.m. between the Wolves and the Wildcats.
