Live VideoAberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team, heads to the Sioux Falls Sanford Pentagon, for their second rematch of the postseason versus Augustana College. The Wolves and Vikings will face off at 12 p.m. tomorrow in the first of four quarterfinals games.
The Wolves recorded a 35 point victory over Southwest Minnesota State to advance to the second round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament. The 77-42, win pushed NSU to 23-6 overall on the year.
Rachel Krogman led Northern with 23 points and ten rebounds for her 17
th double-double of the season. She ranks ninth nationally in double-doubles this season.
Megan Mutchler and
Paige Waytashek notched 11 points apiece, while Mutchler tallied eight rebounds behind Krogman. Krogman and Mutchler were named to the NSIC All-Conference teams earlier this week, while Mutchler was honored with the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. The Wolves have shot above 40 percent in their last four wins, and averaging 42.75 rebounds per game. On the year, Krogman is averaging 16.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, and shooting 51.3 percent from the floor.
About AugustanaThe Vikings are on a five game win streak, heading into their second matchup with the Wolves this season. The women pulled of a 100-57 win over UMD in their first round game Wednesday. Shaunteva Ashley has been a standout for Augie this season, averaging 20.9 points per game, as the NSIC Player of the Year.
Earlier this Season Northern fell to the Vikings, 57-59, in the lone regular season contest.
Devon Brecke led the Wolves with 16 points, while
Rachel Krogman tallied 12 points and 15 rebounds. A total of 11 NSU turnovers, resulted in 13 Augie points and the difference in the game. Northern both out-rebounded and out-shot Augustana in the loss. NSU is 21-23 all-time versus Augustana College.
