Photo Gallery Aberdeen, S.D. – After a battle from Wachs Arena, the Northern State University men's basketball team came away with the 73-62 victory over University of Sioux Falls, advancing to the second round of the NSIC Tournament. The Wolves improve to 22-7 overall, heading into the matchup with Concordia-St. Paul.
The Wolves fell behind early in the first half, trailing the Cougars 18-20 at the under-five media timeout. Northern battled back in the final minutes of the half, to head to the locker room leading 26-25. Northern came out in half two with 47 points and a 70 percent mark from the floor and 83.3 percent mark from the arch.
Tydan Storrusten led NSU with 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists in the win. Storrusten went 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from the three-point line.
DJ Pollard and
Darin Peterka tallied 17 points apiece going 5-for-8 and 5-for-7 from the floor respectively. Peterka led the team with five rebounds.
Skye Warwick was the final NSU player in double-digit scoring with ten points in the game.
Seth Bachand started the night off with five rebounds in the first half of play, but answered back in half two with two more rebounds and six points. The six scores pushed Bachand over 1,000 career points, earning himself the title of the 50
th member of the NSU 1,000 point club.
Northern broke away nine minutes into the second half and did not look back. Their largest lead of the game, 15 points, came on three occasions in the remaining minutes. The Cougars were unable to dwindle the NSU lead into single digits. The Wolves tallied 18 points off of 15 USF turnovers and out-rebounded their opponents 32-25 in the win.
The NSU men move to the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament and a matchup with Concordia-St. Paul. From Wachs Arena earlier this season, NSU fell to the Golden Bears 66-65 in a final seconds win. The Wolves and Golden Bears will matchup, Sunday at 8 p.m., from the Pentagon. Ticket information for all games from the Sanford Pentagon can be found below.
