Tydan Storrusten led the Northern State University men's basketball team in their final game of the NSIC regular season with 21 points. The Wolves defeated Bemidji State 72-66 on the road, improving to 21-7 overall and 15-7 in league play. NSU will host a south division opponent in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament.
Storrusten added five rebounds, five assists and one steal in the win. Ty went 5-for-10 from the floor, a perfect 3-for-3 from the arch, and 8-for-14 from the foul line.
DJ Pollard followed with 12 points, three rebound, two blocks, two steals, and an assist of his own. Both
Seth Bachand and
Darin Peterka tallied ten points in the game. The point total bring Bachand just four points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career, as he returns to Wachs Arena Wednesday. Bachand tallied a game leading 5 assists, alongside Storrusten.
Northern shot 50 percent from the floor, and 50 percent from the arch in the win. The NSU defense was able to hold off the BSU attack as they out-shot the Wolves in the second half. NSU's 43-31 halftime lead aided the Wolves who tallied 29 points in the second.
The Beavers gained the lead at the 11 minute mark in half two, going on an 18-6 run to open play. After a battle, the Wolves gained the lead with under three minutes remaining in regulation off a Storrusten jumper. Northern held on to the lead, and Pollard sealed the deal with two made free-throws in the final seconds of play.
The Wolves offense tallied 18 points off the bench led by Peterka.
Justin Decker and
Michael Schreiber added the final bench points for the Wolves with four apiece in the win.
Skye Warwick and
Mitch White scored eight and three points respectively for NSU.
The Northern men will return to Wachs Arena, Wednesday for the opening round of the NSIC Championships. Tip is set for 8 p.m., with a south opponent yet to be determined.
