Box Score Bismark, N.D.- The Northern State women's basketball team defeated the University of Mary 63-49 on the road in their second conference match-up of the 2015-16 season. The Wolves improve to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play, while the University of Mary drops to 5-3 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
NSU had four different players finish out the night in double digit points, led by seniors
Lauren Deadrick and
Devon Brecke. Deadrick connected for 13 total points, while Brecke completed the match with 12 total.
Paige Waytashek and
Miranda Ristau both added 11 points each to the Wolves offensive attack, followed by
Alexis Tappe with nine total. Tappe rounded out the game with a 75 percent field goal percentage and went 1-1 from the beyond the three point arch.
As a team, the Wolves outshot the Marauders 42.6 percent compared to 34.0 percent from field goal range. Northern State was able to hold the University of Mary to 49 points as 30 of their 43 rebounds were on the defensive end. The team took advantage of rebounds and turnovers by nabbing 10 second chance points and 21 total points off of turnovers.
Junior Hannah Larson of the Marauders led the team statistically, picking up 10 points and 11 rebounds in the match. The Marauders lifted nine steals from the Wolves, but were unable to convert them into enough offensive baskets.
Northern State will continue NSIC action tomorrow night from the campus of Minot State University where they will tip off at 4 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
