Listen LiveAberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University men's basketball team will open the NSIC home season this weekend against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Wolves will take on the Duluth Bulldogs, Friday at 8 p.m., and return to face off against the St. Cloud Huskies at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The NSU men split with the Marauders and Beavers a weekend ago, falling to U-Mary, 60-58, and defeating Minot, 87-80. All five NSU starters are averaging double-digit scoring this season led by
Skye Warwick with a 14.7 point per game average. Warwick is also nearing the 1,000 point mark with 951 in his career.
Darin Peterka has been solid on offense and defense for the Wolves averaging a team second best 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds. The junior is also shooting 43.5 percent from the floor and averaging 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. As a unit the Wolves are shooting 47.9 percent from the floor, 42.1 percent from 3-point range, and 73.2 percent from the foul line.
Mack Arvidson has worked his way into a starting role for NSU averaging 10.0 points per game. The junior is shooting 49.2 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from 3-points range, and 81.3 percent from the foul line.
About the Bulldogs • Minnesota Duluth enters the game 6-2 overall and on a three game NSIC win streak over St. Cloud State, Minnesota Crookston, and Bemidji State.
• UMD is led by head coach Matt Bowen in his fourth season with the program.
• Thus far the Bulldogs are shooting 42.4 percent from the floor, 32.7 percent from 3-point range, and 68.7 percent from the foul line this season.
• Pierre Newton and Taylor Lavery led the offensive attack averaging 17.8 and 16.5 points per game. Newton also sits atop the team averaging 7.6 boards per game.
• The Wolves are 5-5 versus the Bulldogs under the direction of Sather.
Last Match-Up • The two team's split a season ago, each winning on the road. Northern captured the 58-50 victory at Duluth, while the Bulldogs downed the Wolves 67-63 at home.
