Wolves Open NSIC Tournament From Wachs Arena

Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 4 Northern State University volleyball team will open the NSIC Tournament at home tomorrow versus No. 21 Winona State. First serve is schedule for 7 p.m. between the Wolves and the Warriors. All NSU students will be admitted free to Wednesday's game. Adult tickets are $10, seniors are $8, students are $2, and all children 5 and under are admitted free.
 
The Wolves enter the tournament 25-3 overall this season and 17-3 in regular season league action. Northern earned the third seed in the NSIC Tournament and will face the No. 6 Warriors. NSU went 1-1 in the final weekend of the regular season sweeping St. Cloud State and falling to No. 9 Minnesota Duluth. Kelsey Chambers led the team with 34 kills, while Cari McGarvie hit a team leading .467 in eight sets played. Drew Smith tallied 99 assists brining her season total to 1,292 which is just 57 assists short of the NSU single season record. The Wolves continue to lead the nation in both assists per set and hitting percentage after a solid regular season across the board.
 
About Winona State
 
The Warriors enter the tournament 18-9 overall and 12-8 in the NSIC regular season with the No. 6 seed. Nationally ranked No. 21, Winona State is on a high after defeating Wayne State College at home in the season finale. WSU is currently on a three game win streak. Winona is averaging 14.5 kills, 13.1 assists, 16.5 digs, and 1.7 blocks the season. They are hitting .251 as a unit and holding their opponents to a .189 mark. Taylor Goar leads the team with 321 kills, followed by Lauren Kudronowicz and Danielle Rampart who are both above 200 this season. McKenna Larsen has taken the bulk of the setting responsibilities with 976 total assists this season. WSU is led by Joe Getzin in his second year with the program and second NSIC Tournament appearance.
 
Earlier this Season
 
Northern defeated the Warriors 3-1 on the road in regular season play. The two teams battled as NSU hit .303 and WSU hit .301 in the game. Kelsey Chambers led the team with 19 kills, followed by Mandy Kurosky and Kellie Schmit with 13 and 11. Taylor Goar tallied 22 kills for the Warriors. Winona tallied 17 attack errors in the loss, while the Wolves capitalized on Warrior mistakes. Drew Smith led the game with 57 assists, and Chambers led the Wolves with 15 digs. WSU was strong on defense with 74 digs to Northern's 69 and led the game with four blocks.
