UMD VideoAberdeen, S.D. – The No. 3 Northern State University volleyball team will round out the NSIC regular season this weekend on the road at St. Cloud State and No. 9 Minnesota Duluth. The Wolves will face off with the Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m., and match-up with the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The Wolves are currently 24-2 on the year and 16-2 in NSIC action.
Kelsey Chambers,
Cari McGarvie, and
Mandy Kurosky were named NSIC All-Conference, while senior setter
Drew Smith was named the league Player of the Year. As a unit the Wolves lead the league in hitting percentage (.328), assists per set (14.18), and kills per set (14.81). NSU also leads the nation in hitting percentage and assists per set.
Drew Smith leads the league and the nation in assists per set, averaging 13.26.
Kellie Schmit and
Cari McGarvie sit one-two in the league in hitting percentage with marks of .451 and .420.
Kelsey Chambers is fourth in the NSIC with 4.12 kills per set.
About the Huskies St. Cloud State enters the weekend 9-17 overall and 5-13 in league action. Rachel Burke leads the team with 221 kills, followed by Sophie Jaskulske with 213 this season. Allison Butler has tallied 658 assists this season, as the Huskies are hitting .168 as a unit. Libero Brianne Stamer, and NSIC second-team honoree has tallied 523 digs, averaging 5.51 per set. She leads the defense by nearly 200 digs, and is pacing the team to a 16.55 dig per set average. St. Cloud State currently sits 13
th in the NSIC league standings.
Earlier this Season The Wolves swept the Huskies in late September led by
Kelsey Chambers with 14 kills. Northern hit .324 as a team with 47 kills and held SCSU to only 25 kills and a .074 attack percentage. Chambers recorded no errors in the win and hit .560 with eight digs.
Drew Smith tallied 41 assists, while
Renee Hoffman led the team with 21 total digs.
About the Bulldogs Minnesota Duluth currently sits fifth in the league with a season record of 20-7 and conference mark of 13-5. The Bulldogs are on a four game win streak and will close out the regular season at home. UMD placed five on the All-NSIC teams in Ashley Hinsch (1
st), Mariah Scharf (1
st), Monica Turner (2
nd), Sudnie Mauch (2
nd), and Sarah Kelly (2
nd). Hinsch ranks second in the nation to
Drew Smith, averaging 12.7 assists per set with 1,193 total. Mariah Scharf leads the team with 428 kills, averaging 4.51 per set. The Bulldogs are hitting .296 this season, averaging 14.74 kills, 13.85 assists, 14.13 digs, and 2.13 blocks per set.

The Wolves swept the then No. 1 Bulldogs at home earlier this season. Northern hit .421 with 51 kills and held Duluth to a .204 attack percentage and 35 kills.
Kelsey Chambers and
Cari McGarvie led the team with 13 kills, followed by
Tori Biach with 11. Chambers hit .647 while
Mandy Kurosky tallied eight kills and hit .533 in the win. Biach also led NSU with three aces.
Drew Smith tallied 47 assists, and
Renee Hoffman recorded a team leading 13 digs.
