Aberdeen, S.D.- The Northern State women's soccer team gears up to take on the University of Mary from Jerde Field tomorrow for their last home game of the season. After a weekend sweep, the team now has an overall record of 7-8-1 and a conference record of 5-7-1. The team is in the race for an NSIC conference tournament position as they find themselves just three points away from a top eight finish.
The Wolves had arguably one of their best weekends of the 2015-2016 season, scoring four goals to defeat the University of Sioux Falls and recording a shutout against Southwest State.
Allie Macdonald posted two goals and two assists in the matches, nabbing the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week.
Also putting up points on the weekend was midfielder
Anna Bondy, adding to her team high of seven goals, freshman
Karli Harney notching her first goal of the season and defender
Sydney Shintaffer contributed with an unassisted goal.
Senior goalkeeper,
Brittany Tietz, surpassed the career saves record this past weekend and now has 298 saves in her three seasons with Northern State. Look for the Wolves to keep this momentum going as the race for a top conference spot continues.
Northern State will kick off at 2 p.m. tomorrow from Jerde Field against the University of Mary Marauders. The team will then travel north to face Minot State University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
About the University of MaryThe Marauders currently hold an overall record of 2-11-2 and are 2-10-1 in NSIC play, with their two conference victories coming from Southwest State and St. Cloud State. Leading in points for the University of Mary is junior midfielder, Megan Searson, with four goals and three assists. The team's goalkeeper, Bailey Wenz, has posted a 1.86 goals against average, notched 63 saves on the year and has a save percentage of .724. Former University of Mary All-American, Sarah Cook, is in her fourth season as head coach for the Marauders.
About Minot State UniversityThe Beavers now hold a third place ranking in the NSIC women's soccer standings, with a conference record of 10-2-1 and an overall record of 12-3-1. The team's two NSIC loses were against St. Cloud State and Augustana University. Junior forward Ninfa Ramirez, currently leads Minot State in total shots with 66 and in goals with 12. Appearing in 15 matches, goalkeeper Celene Johnson has only allowed 11 goals, has notched 34 saves, and has a save percentage of .756. The Beavers are led by sixth year head coach, Jason Spain.Â
