Volleyball Hosts MSU Moorhead Tomorrow

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team opens NSIC action this Tuesday versus MSU Moorhead at home. The Wolves and Dragons are scheduled to face off at 7 p.m. from Wachs Arena in the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Center Pink Game.
 
The No. 6 Northern State University volleyball team continued their unbeaten streak with wins over No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State over the weekend. The 3-1 win over CSP marks the second time this season the Wolves have defeated the top team in the nation. NSU hit .280 over the weekend with 96 kills in seven sets played. The Wolves remain atop the league standings, and lead the conference in hitting percentage (.356), opponent hitting percentage (.125), assists per set (14.19), opponent assists per set (9.06), kills per set (14.90), opponent kills per set (9.44), and opponent blocks per set (1.30). Drew Smith leads the league and the nation in assists per set, while Kellie Schmit leads the NSIC and nation in hitting percentage.
 
About the Dragons
 
MSU Moorhead enters the weekend 12-7 overall and 5-6 in Northern Sun Conference play after a 1-1 weekend against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. MSUM captured the sweep over the Mavericks, however fell to the No. 1 ranked Golden Bears in the same fashion. Kaitlin VanWinkle is leading the Dragon offense with 218 kills in 2015. VanWinkle is averaging 3.21 kills per set and hitting .320 on the year. Casie Baer leads the team with 712 assists, averaging 10.47 per set and has tallied a team leading 19 service aces. As a unit MSU Moorhead is hitting .196 and averaging 12.45 kills, 11.78 assists, 15.58 digs, and 2.68 blocks per set. They currently sit atop the NSIC in blocks per set.
 
Earlier this Season
 
Northern came away with the 3-2 victory over the Dragons on their home court in late September. MSUM handed the Wolves their first set loss of the season, however was unable to come away with the victory. Kelsey Chambers led the Wolves with 24 kills followed by Cari McGarvie with 17 and Mandy Kurosky with 12. Northern hit .259 as a team in the win, and held the Dragons to a .169 mark. Renee Hoffman led the defensive effort with 25 digs, while Drew Smith added 64 total assists.
