Women's Basketball Begins Four Game Road Stint At Minot and U-Mary

Aberdeen, S.D. - The no. 6 Northern State University women's basketball team will be on the road this weekend, taking on Minot State University and University of Mary. The Wolves will tip-of with the Beavers Friday, January 9th, at 6 p.m. and with the Marauders Saturday, January 10th, at 4 p.m.. Northern is 13-1 overall and 7-1 in Northern Sun Conference play. 

The Wolves enter the weekend with a three game win streak. Northern defeated Winona State and Upper Iowa from home a weekend ago. Rachel Krogman led the averaging 19 points and nine rebounds. She recorded a season high 22 points versus the Warriors, and her eighth double-double of the season versus the Peacocks. Devon Brecke had a breakout game against the Peacocks scoring a season high 12 points. NSU continues to lead the nation in scoring defense at 47.8, 4.1 points better than Emporia State in second. Northern also leads the conference in scoring defense (49.6), as well as scoring margin (+14.0), field goal percentage (44.6%), field goal percentage defense (32.4%), and assist/turnover ratio (1.4) for conference games only.  The Wolves are 10-0 this season in games shooting 40 percent or above, and are 13-0 in games where they have out-rebounded their opponents. 

About Minot State

The Beavers are currently 7-7 overall and 2-6 in league play, falling to Minnesota Crookston last weekend. Minot's two conference wins are against Southwest Minnesota State and Bemidji State. The Beavers have a balanced squad with multiple players leading the team in statistically categories. 

Earlier This Season 

Although the Beavers out-shot the Wolves earlier this season Northern came away with the 61-49 victory at home. Four MSU players reached double-digit points, while Megan Mutchler led the Northern offense with 16. Krogman rebounded for a season high 17 boards in the game, as the Wolves out-rebounded their opponents 42-31. NSU is 23-5 all-time versus Minot State, with a two game win streak. 

About U-Mary 

U-Mary is an even .500, at 4-4, in conference play. The women fell twice last weekend to Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on the road. The Marauders lead the conference in blocked shots with a 6.5 per game average. The 70-72 loss to the Beavers, marked BSU second conference victory of the season. 

Earlier This Season 

Megan Mutchler was hot against the Marauders earlier this season, matching her career high of 24 points in the win. Mutchler was followed by Rachel Krogman with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hannah Larson was the lone Marauder in double-digits with 15 points in the game. NSU shot 51.6 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from the arch in the 80-53 victory. The Wolves hit the boards to out-rebound the Marauders 49-33. Northern is 31-13 all-time versus U-Mary.
