The Northern State wrestling team opens NSIC action this week with a pair of duals. The Wolves' NSIC opener is Thursday as they travel to MSU Moorhead for a 7 p.m. match and will return home Saturday for a 7 p.m. dual with Minot State.

NSU closed the 2014 portion of its schedule with a 34-6 loss to Chadron State in its first dual of the season back on December 11 in Aberdeen. Sean Havlovic at 157 pounds and Joe Gomez at 197 garnered the two victories in the dual for the Wolves.

Havlovic picked up his fifth win of the season with a 4-1 decision over the Eagles' CJ Clark in the match. Havlovic controlled much of the contest, registering a first period takedown which proved to be the match-winning points. Havlovic also added a point for riding time in the win. Gomez's victory over CSC's Devan Fors came in sudden victory overtime, 3-1. Gomez was able to get a takedown right away in the extra frame to secure the win. Gomez just missed on a takedown at the end of regulation which would have given him the win in regular time.

The Dragons are 1-1 this season in duals, losing 22-13 to Concordia (Minn.) College on the road and defeating Long Island-Post 33-6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. MSUM is led by Kris Nelson who is in his sixth season as head coach.

The Beavers enter the weekend 3-4 this season in duals, earning victories over Jamestown 35-15, Waldorf (Iowa) 33-18 and U-Mary 31-12. Minot has lost this season to Chadron State 30-9, McKendree 40-12, Northwest (Wyo.) 30-18 and Mary 23-17. The Beavers are led by Robin Ersland who is in his fifth season at Minot.
