The Northern State wrestling team returns to action this weekend with a pair of duals as the Wolves travel to St. Cloud State for a 7 p.m. match Friday and will close the weekend with a 7 p.m. tilt at Upper Iowa Saturday.
The Wolves enter the weekend coming off losses to Colorado Mesa, Western State (Colo.) and Lindenwood (Mo.) at last week's Nebraska-Kearny Midwest Duals. At 157 pounds,Â
Sean Havlovic had the best day for the Wolves as he went 2-1. Against Western State, Havlovic defeated Shawn Beiriger 10-8 and a hard-fought, back-and-forth match. Havlovic finished the day with an 8-5 decision over Lindenwood's Derrick Weller.
At 197,Â
Joe Gomez went 1-2, picking up a 9-7 sudden victory win over Colordao Mesa's Francisco Retana. Gomez's two losses on the day were well contested, as he lost 3-1 in overtime to Sam Mangum of Western State and 3-2 to Lindenwood's Kenny Breaux.Â
Grant Steen picked up a 6-1 win at 149 for NSU against Lindenwood's Tony Arellano as well.
St. Cloud is 9-2 on the season and has won four consecutive matches. The Huskies defeated Concordia College 40-3 in their lone home dual of the season thus far. Upper Iowa is 6-2 in duals this season and is 2-0 at home.
