Listen LiveThe Northern State men's basketball team returns to Wachs Arena this weekend to begin a four game homestand as the Wolves welcome Bemidji State Friday at 8 p.m. and Minnesota, Crookston at 7 p.m. Saturday. NSU went 3-1 over its recent four game road trip and is coming off a weekend sweep over Southwest Minnesota, 98-90 and Sioux Falls 65-54.
In Northern's (15-3, 9-3 NSIC) win over Southwest, the Wolves shot a season-high 58.2 percent from the floor and registered a season-best 25 assists.
Seth Bachand and
Tydan Storrusten led the Wolves with a career-high 23 points each in the win. Against the Cougars, Bachand led NSU with 20 points and nine rebounds. Bachand was named this week's NSIC North Division Player of the Week for his efforts last weekend.
Bachand leads the team and is 13th in the NSIC in scoring with 14.7 points per game. Bachand also ranks second in the league in rebounding with 8.7 boards per contest and is second in field goal percentage shooting 67 percent on the year. His 1.3 blocks per game are fifth-most in the conference.
Skye Warwick (50 percent) and
Spencer Pankonin (48 percent) rank sixth and eighth in the league, respectively in three-point percentage while Warwick's 2.8 threes made per game are third-most in the NSIC.
About the BeaversBemidji State is led by Head Coach Mike Boschee who is in his third season with the program. The Beavers rank eighth in the NSIC in scoring averaging 74.8 points per game and are 11th defensively, allowing 74.4 per. BSU is seventh in the league in field goal percentage shooting 47.4 percent from the floor. The Beavers rank in the top 10 in the conference in blocks with 2.7 a game and are ninth in assists with 13.4 per contest. Bemidji causes a lot of turnovers, as it ranks third in the NSIC with 7.3 steals per game.
Bemidji's Brock Lutes ranks seventh in the league in scoring averaging 16.3 points per game. Lutes' 3.1 assists per contest rank 13th in the conference. DJ Anderson leads the team and is eighth in the conference averaging 1.4 steals per game.
About the Golden EaglesMinnesota, Crookston ranks seventh in the NSIC in scoring defense, allowing 71.9 points per game, but rank last in the conference in offense, scoring just 61.2 points per game. Crookston ranks sixth in the conference in three-point percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 35.7 percent from beyond the arc. UMC is led by Head Coach Dan Weisse who is in his first season with the Golden Eagles. Derrick Redd ranks 24th in the league in scoring averaging 12.5 points per game and is also fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage shooting 83.7 percent. Tyler West ranks fourth in the league in rebounding, averaging 7.6 boards a contest.
