Listen LiveNorthern State closes its four game road trip this weekend as the Wolves travel to face Southwest Minnesota State Friday at 8 p.m. and Sioux Falls in a 6 p.m. contest Saturday. NSU is coming off a split last weekend on the road, coming from behind to defeat Minot State 79-78 and losing to U-Mary 80-76.
Northern shot 54 percent from the field in the win over the Beavers and were led by
Seth Bachand's 17 points and six rebounds.
Tydan Storrusten added 14 points in the victory. Against the Marauders, the Wolves had five players score in double figures and were led by
Skye Warwick's 14. Bachand,
Darin Peterka and Storrusten each had 13 in the loss while
DJ Pollard added 12 points. Mary shot 55.6 percent in the contest.
Bachand continues to lead the NSIC in rebounding with 8.8 boards per contest, he also ranks 14
th in scoring (13.8 ppg), is third in field goal percentage (66.1 percent) and fifth in blocks (1.3 bpg). Storrusten ranks fifth in the league with an 85 percent free-throw percentage and
Skye Warwick's 2.7 made three pointers per game are third-best in the league.
Spencer Pankonin's 53.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc is fourth in the conference.
About the MustangsSMSU is fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 79.6 points per game and rank 14th in defense as it allows 75.7 ppg. The Mustangs are one of the top shooting teams in the NSIC, ranking second in field goal percentag (49.5 percent) and three-point percentage (42.5 percent). Southwest is fourth in the conference in assists with 15.1 per game and rank sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.2.
Joey Bartlett ranks 11th in the league in scoring, averaging 14.5 a contest and is 17th in rebounding with 5.4 per game. MJ Delmore leads the league in three-point percentage at 56.6 percent, while Travis Meinders ranks sixth (51.8 percent) and Turner Moen is 14th (45 percent). Mitch Weg ranks eighth in the conference in field goal percentage shooting 57.4 percent from the field.
About the CougarsUSF ranks 14th in the league in scoring at 69.3 points per game and is 12th in defense allowing 74.4 ppg. The Cougars rank sixth in the NSIC in field goal percentage defense, allowing their opponents to shoot 44 percent on the year. Sioux Falls is one of the best rebounding teams in the league, ranking fourth in rebounding with 36.6 per game and is second in rebounding margin at plus-5.6. The Cougars' 13 offensive rebounds per game are tops in the league. Inside, USF is very stout, ranking second in the NSIC in blocked shots with 3.8 blocks a game. Charles Ward ranks fourth in the conference in scoring averaging 18.4 per game.
Northern defeated SMSU earlier this season in non-conference action in Aberdeen, winning 93-88 in overtime. Bachand led the Wolves with 20 points in the victory while Peterka added 19. This will be NSU's first meeting of the season with Sioux Falls. The Wolves defeated the Cougars 96-79 last season in Sioux Falls behind a 62.5 percent shooting performance.
