No. 4 Wolves Headed to SMSU and USF

Aberdeen, S.D. – The no. 4 Northern State University women's basketball team will head to Southwest Minnesota State and University of Sioux Falls this Friday and Saturday for another week of NSIC play. The Wolves will tip-off with the Mustangs, Friday at 6 p.m., and the Cougars, Saturday at 4 p.m., with the men to follow each day.
 
The Wolves moved to fourth in the national rankings after a two win weekend against Minot State, 66-47, and U-Mary, 73-56. Stotesbery recorded a season high 19 points and 11 rebounds versus Minot State for her first double-double of the season. She continued to play well in night two with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Northern was able to hold off a hot U-Mary squad, who connected for 13 buckets from the arch. Statistically the Wolves lead the conference in scoring defense (50.0), scoring margin (+14.8), field goal percentage (44.6), field goal percentage defense (32.4), rebounding margin (10.7), and assist/turnover ratio (1.5). NSU continues to lead the nation in scoring defense at 48.3. Rachel Krogman sit second in the league, to UIU's Buck, in rebounding (11.4) and defensive rebounds (8.0), while leading offensive rebounds (3.4).
 
About Southwest
 
Southwest sits at the bottom of the conference with their only win coming against Augustana College (77-71). Annessa Rosch is the main attack for the Mustangs leading the team in scoring, assists, and steals as a junior. 
 
All-Time NSU vs. SMSU

Northern is 44-14 all-time versus the Mustangs with a six game win streak. In 2013-14, the Wolves defeated SMSU in both the regular season and the first round of the post season. Krogman tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds in the 57-46 mid-season victory. Mutchler added 10 rebounds in the game. Northern began the NSIC Tournament with a 73-45 victory at home.
 
About Sioux Falls
 
The Cougars currently sit in fourth in the NSIC south with wins over Winona State and Augustana College. USF started the season with an eight game win streak, snapped by the Marauders of U-Mary. Taylor Carsho and Sam Knecht are the one-two punch for Sioux Falls, leading the team in multiple categories. As a team the Cougars lead the league in three-point field goal percentage defense (26.5%).
 
All-Time NSU vs. USF
 
The Wolves are 9-1 all-time versus the Cougars, with their only loss coming in the 1971-72 season. Northern took the 2013-14 contest with a score of 64-57 on the road. Krogman tallied 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Mutchler added 8 points and 12 boards.  Northern's 18 foul line buckets made the difference in the game as USF gave up 21 fouls, to NSU's seven.
