Photo GalleryThe Northern State volleyball team made it a perfect 3-0 week as it handed Winona State its first conference loss of the season Saturday in Aberdeen as the Wolves dropped WSU in straight-sets 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20.
Hailey Busch continued her strong weekend as she led the Wolves with 12 kills and a .391 hitting percentage. Busch also recorded eight digs and three block assists for NSU (11-3, 4-2 NSIC). The Wolves had a balanced offensive attack as
Kelsey Chambers and
Cari McGarvie each added nine kills.
Mandy Kurosky chipped in with eight and
Tori Biach had five. Both Biach and McGarvie had three total blocks in the match.
Drew Smith recorded 36 assists for NSU and also tied with
Annika van Oosbree for the team lead with nine digs.
Renee Hoffman added eight digs as the Wolves did a solid job all match defensively.
Northern hit .286 as a team in the win while holding Winona to a .133 clip. WSU (10-2, 5-1 NSIC) entered the night hitting .240 for the season as a squad. Northern also controlled the net in the win as the Wolves recorded seven total blocks while Winona had two.
The Wolves executed when it mattered most Saturday as Northern ended set one with a 5-2 run and also had an 8-2 run in set three to close-out the match.
Northern will travel to face a pair of top-25 opponents next weekend as it travels to No. 17 Wayne State for a 7 p.m. match Friday before playing at 21
st-ranked Augustana Saturday at 3 p.m.
