NSU Defeats Upper Iowa in Four

The Northern State volleyball team defeated Upper Iowa in four sets Friday evening inside Wachs Arena to improve to 3-2 in NSIC play and 10-3 overall on the season. Set scores went 25-16, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-17.

The Wolves had four players with double-figure kills and were led by Kelsey Chambers and Cari McGarvie's 14 apiece. Chambers also recorded her second double-double of the season as she added 10 digs. Hailey Busch was solid for NSU both offensively and defensively as she collected 13 kills and a career-best 21 digs in the win. The double-double was Busch's second on the season. Busch also led the Wolves with five total blocks.

Mandy Kurosky added 11 kills and also hit a team-high .308 for the match. Drew Smith, the nation's leader in assists per set, had another strong night as she recorded 56 assists (14 per set) and also had 17 digs to notch her seventh double-double of 2014. In the back row, Annika van Oosbree collected 16 digs while Renee Hoffman added 11.

The Wolves hit .209 as a team in the match while allowing just a .071 clip from the Peacocks (7-6, 2-3 NSIC). Northern had three aces in the win while committing eight service errors. UIU had a pair of aces and four serving errors. NSU also held the slimmest of margins blocking as it collected eight total team blocks and UIU had seven.

Northern concludes its week and three-match homestand Saturday as Winona State comes to Aberdeen for a 4 p.m. match. The Warriors are one of three teams in the league that are a perfect 5-0 in NSIC play this year.
