Live StatsThe Northern State football team travels to face Southwest Minnesota State Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest at Mattke Field. Saturday's game will be the Wolves' final night game of the season as their first four games have been played under the lights.
NSU (1-2) is coming off a 48-17 loss last week at home to Augustana. The Wolves rushed for a season-high 231 yards against the Vikings.
Nicholas Truen led Northern with a career-high 122 yards and a score against Augustana.
Cody Kraft led the Wolves with 33 yards receiving on three catches last week, while Zachary Barber had a team-high five grabs.
Jared Jacobson had 145 yards of total offense in the game and had a four-yard touchdown run. Jacobson is now 381 total yards from moving into fifth-place on the NSIC's all-time list for total yardage in conference games. Jacobson has 7,186 yards of total offense in his career.
About the MustangsSouthwest enters Saturday with a 1-2 record and is coming off a 38-7 loss at No. 4 Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Mustangs are 1-0 at home this year.
SMSU is led by running back Tyler Tonderum who finished eighth last season in the Harlon Hill National Player of the Year balloting. The All-American Tonderum rushed for a school record 2,145 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2013. So far this season, Tonderum has been limited to 171 yards on the ground and two scores.
The Mustangs' Charlie Kern has passed for 673 yards and three touchdowns this season. Kern was a Second Team All-NSIC selection last season. Kevin Parks is Southwest's top receiving threat as he leads the team with 16 catches for 242 yards (15.1 avg./catch) and has one score. Defensive end AJ Page, who was a second team all-conference selection last season, is one of two Mustangs to have recorded a sack this season. SMSU is led by Head Coach Cory Sauter who is in his fifth season as the head man and seventh overall at SMSU. Sauter is 19-29 overall with the Mustangs.
The SeriesNorthern leads the all-time series 21-10-2. Southwest has won four of the last five meetings in the series. Prior to that, NSU had won 16-straight against the Mustangs.
Last MeetingSouthwest won in Aberdeen back in 2012, 32-30. Jacobson had two touchdowns in the loss for the Wolves and
Ryan Weybrecht recorded five tackles.
