Wolves Host a Pair of NSIC Matches This Weekend

The 24th-ranked Northern State volleyball team closes-out its three-match homestand this weekend as it hosts Upper Iowa at 7 p.m. Friday and Winona State at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Wolves enter the weekend at 9-3 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC and are coming off a three-set sweep over U-Mary on Tuesday. Kelsey Chambers and Mandy Kurosky led the Wolves with 12 kills each in the win. Setter Drew Smith, who entered the week leading the nation in assists per set with 13.4, had 30 assists for Northern.

The Peacocks are 7-5 and 2-2 in the league and are led by Jennifer Mundt's 185 kills (4.02 per set). Hailey Brown is second on the team with 108 kills. Brown also leads the team averaging 5.74 assists per set this season. Jenna Hermsen is averaging 3.98 assists per for the Peacocks. Northern swept UIU last season in Aberdeen. Chambers recorded a career-high 23 kills in the win.

Winona State is 9-1 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in NSIC play. Danielle Rampart leads the Warriors with 160 kills and is hitting .302. Setter McKenna Larsen is averaging nearly 10.2 assists per set for WSU and is third on the team with 70 kills.

The Warriors are led by first-year Head Coach Joe Getzin. Prior to joining WSU, Getzin coached for 12 seasons at the University of Mississippi where he was a two-time SEC Coach of the Year and led the Rebels to three appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

NSU swept Winona last season, but the match was much closer than it appeared as set scores went 26-24, 25-22 and 26-24.
