Volleyball Sweeps U-Mary

The Northern State volleyball team snapped its two-match losing streak and evened its conference record to 2-2 as the Wolves defeated U-Mary Tuesday night in straight sets. Set scores went 25-16, 25-12 and 25-23. NSU improves to 9-3 overall with the victory.

The Wolves were led by Kelsey Chambers and Mandy Kurosky who each recorded 12 kills in the win. Chambers also moved into 10th place on NSU's all-time kills list with 882 for her career. Setter Drew Smith notched her sixth double-double of the season in the match as she recorded 30 assists and a team-best 13 digs. Chambers added eight digs while Hailey Busch had seven.

Cari McGarvie had a strong night for Northern as she recorded seven kills and had a career-high .875 attacking percentage. McGarvie also had three block assists. Northern was led by Tori Biach's six total stuffs.

Kurosky and Smith also had a pair of service aces each to lead the Wolves in that category. Northern hit just .237 for the match but held the Marauders (3-10, 0-4 NSIC) to a -.010 hitting percentage. Northern also had twice as many blocks (10) as U-Mary (5).

NSU continues its homestand this weekend as Upper Iowa and Winona State come to town for Friday and Saturday matches, respectively. The UIU match begins at 7 p.m. while Winona and Northern face-off at 4 p.m.
