The Wolves defeated the visiting Dragons, of Minnesota State University-Moorhead, 1-0 from Jerde Field. NSU improves to 2-2 on the year, and 1-0 in conference play.
Allie Macdonald was an offensive threat for the Wolves throughout the game, but more specifically in the second half. Macdonald led the squad with eight shots on the day making countless runs past gawking MSUM defenders. After countless near misses, the junior came up big for the Wolves with under five minutes remaining in the game.
Anna Bondy took control from the Dragons at midfield, feeding the ball to the attacking Macdonald. Allie went on to dribble past two defenders and score her first goal of the season, stumping the Dragon keeper. The goal marked her third break-away of the game.
Bondy added a threat of her own in the match, taking six shots, three of which were on goal. Bondy recorded the assist on the Macdonald score. The Northern defense kept MSUM at bay in the second half, as no shots were taken on goal.
Brittany Tietz recorded four saves in the first half of play and notched her first shut-out of the season.
As a team, the Wolves forced nine corners in the contest, while holding the Dragons to a pair. Northern's 23 shots and seven shots on goal, were contributed by eight different women with Macdonald and Bondy at the top.
The Wolves will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday from Jerde Field as they take on the visiting Huskies and Bulldogs. Game times are set for 1 p.m. against St. Cloud and Minnesota Duluth.
