Wolves Take Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic Crown, McGarvie Named MVP

The No. 21 Northern State volleyball team made it a clean sweep of the weekend as the Wolves defeated Minot State and Minnesota, Crookston Saturday to claim the NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic Title.
 
NSU dismantled Minot, winning 25-14, 25-11 and 25-11. Against the Golden Eagles, it was a little tougher sledding but the Wolves came out on top 25-23, 25-16 and 25-22.
 
The Wolves (7-1) hit .357 as a team against the Beavers and were led by Tori Biach's 11 kills. Biach also had a .526 attack percentage to lead the team. Kelsey Chambers added nine kills and 10 digs while Hailey Busch and Cari McGarvie each had seven kills. McGarvie led the team with five block assists in the sweep.
 
Drew Smith recorded her fourth double-double of the season as she recorded 37 assists and 11 digs in the match. Annika van Oosbree led the Wolves with 12 digs and Busch chipped in with nine.
 
Against UMC, NSU recorded a season-high .400 hitting percentage as a team and were led by Chambers' 14 kills in the match. Biach and Mandy Kurosky each had 11 kills while McGarvie added nine while hitting .643 and Busch chipped in with seven.
 
Smith had a great match from her setter position, recording 49 assists, 10 digs and four block assists in the win. Renee Hoffman led the Wolves with 13 digs.
 
Biach, Chambers, McGarvie and Smith were named to the all-tournament team while McGarvie was named the MVP of the classic. McGarvie was third on the team with 37 kills and hit .540 over the weekend. She also led the Wolves with six service aces and had a team-best 20 blocking assists.
 
Chambers and Biach had 48 and 38 kills, respectively in the four matches while Smith averaged over 14 assists per set and had 32 total digs.
 
Northern opens NSIC play Tuesday as MSU Moorhead comes to Wachs Arena for a 7 p.m. match.
