Volleyball Sweeps to Victory in Day One of NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic

The Northern State volleyball team opened day one of the NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic with a pair of sweeps. The Wolves defeated Southwest Baptist 25-15, 25-21 and 25-17 and closed-out the evening with a win over St. Cloud State 25-19, 25-15 and 29-27.

NSU (5-1) hit .367 as a squad in the match against SBU and had four Wolves with double-figure kills led by Mandy Kurosky's 12. Cari McGarvie added 11 kills and hit a career-high .647 in the sweep. McGarvie also led the Wolves with three block assists. Tori Biach and Kelsey Chambers added 10 kills each. Hailey Busch added eight kills for Northern.

Drew Smith had another excellent match from her setter position as she totaled 45 assists and also had seven digs. Annika van Oosbree led the Wolves with a career-best 19 digs and Renee Hoffman had 13. The Wolves had 10 block assists as a team while the Bearcats had just two. SBU was also held to just a .121 attack percentage in the match.

Against SCSU, the Wolves again had a solid attacking percentage as they hit .327 in the win while holding the Huskies to a .173 clip. Chambers was in top-form in the win as she hit a season-high .520 while leading the Wolves with 15 kills and also notched 12 digs to earn her first double-double of the season. Chambers also added four blocking assists.

McGarvie added 10 kills while hitting .500 and also led the Wolves with a career-best eight block assists. As a team, Northern had 24 block assists and a solo block, the second-highest output under Head Coach Brent Aldridge. Kurosky added seven kills in the win while Biach had six. Smith recorded 39 assists and also had five total blocks. van Oosbree chipped in with 10 digs from her libero spot.

Northern resumes day two of the classic Saturday as the Wolves will face Minot State at 12:15 p.m. and will close the tournament against Minnesota, Crookston at 7 p.m.
