Wolves Drop Two on Blustery Day from Mocassin

Aberdeen, S.D. – For the first time since the 2012 season, the Northern State University softball team hosted a conference game at Mocassin Creek Softball Complex. The Wolves fell to University of Mary in the two game series with game score of 2-0 and 5-1. The Wolves are now 9-25 overall and 2-16 in the Northern Sun Conference.
 
Game One
 
Eryn Yancy recorded the first hit of the game for the Wolves in the bottom of the first inning with a single through the left side. Yancy reached base for a second time in the match-up due to an error by the first basemen in the fourth inning. Taylor Kontaxis and Katelynn Dilts connected for the other Northern hits in the game with singles up the middle and through the left side.
 
Kami Smesmo threw well for the Wolves giving up only two earned runs and striking out six batters. Smesmo threw six innings in the loss before returning to start game two of the day. In her one inning pitched, Missy Elkins struck out two batters and gave up one hit.
 
Game Two
 
The Wolves started off game two with a single off the bat of Kelsey Gale. Katelynn Dilts walked the next at bat before Eryn Yancy doubled to left. The Wolves were unable to score in the inning however leaving three runners on base.
 
Lindsey Hubler recorded the lone run and RBI of the game with a long ball sent to left field against a strong south wind. Hubler looked to start a NSU rally however the Wolves were unable to pull something together. Ashley Clapp and Katelynn Dilts connected for the other Northern hits of the day.
 
Smesmo threw well again for NSU recording five strikeouts in the loss and working to keep her team in the game. Elkins entered the game again in the seventh inning and held the Marauders to one unearned run one two hits and a strikeout.
 
The Wolves will remain at home with weekend match-ups against Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston, this Friday and Saturday.
