The Northern State men's basketball team got off to a slow start Saturday night, scoring just 19 first half points which proved to be fatal in a 76-58 loss to St. Cloud State in Aberdeen.
Darin Peterka scored a career-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting including going 4-of-7 from three-point range in the loss for the Wolves.
Seth Bachand added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds in the loss while
Tydan Storrusten scored eight and dished-out three assists.
Michael Schreiber had four points, five boards and a block in his first career state for Northern (14-10, 9-9 NSIC).
Northern shot 38.2 percent from the floor (21-for-55) and hit 7-of-23 from deep (30.4 percent) while St. Cloud (16-6, 12-6 NSIC) shot 49 percent (25-for-51) and made 10-of-23 from long range (43.5 percent). SCSU also hit 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) from the free throw line while Northern struggled, going just 9-for-20 (45 percent).
NSU had 13 turnovers while the Huskies turned it over just nine times. However, SCSU scored 25 points off of Northern mistakes while the Wolves scored seven points off turnovers. The Northern bench had a solid game Saturday as they held a 34-8 edge in points scored. The Wolves also held a 28-20 advantage in paint points.
St. Cloud State was led by Jordan Poydras' 23 points and four assists. The Huskies did not trail in the contest.
Northern hits the road next weekend as they return to action to face Wayne State at 8 p.m. Friday and will face Augustana at 7:00 Saturday night.
