Wolves Meet Vikings in NSIC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team continues their season this Saturday at 12 p.m. in the NSIC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Wolves will take on the Vikings of Augstana College. Northern finished the season 22-5 overall and 17-5 in the conference, while the Vikings ended up 16-11 on the year and 11-11 in the loop. 

The Wolves are coming off a 28 point victory over SouthwestMinnesota State in the opening round of the NSIC conference tournament. Northern came out hot at home shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from three-point range, with both numbers resulting in season highs. The Wolves held the Mustangs to 16 points in the first half of play as they shot 28.1 percent from field goal range. Earlier this week the NSIC announced that senior Alison Kusler and head coach Curt Fredrickson were named to the NSIC first team and the coach of the year. Rachel Krogman recieved NSIC second team honors; while Megan Mutchler and Paige
Waytashek were named to the All Defense and All Freshman teams respectively. NSU will now head to the Sanford Pentagon to take on the Vikings of Augustana College in the tournaments second round.

Augustana College

The Vikings are coming off a 90-79 victory against MSU Moorhead in the first round of the NSIC conference tournament. Augie, much like NSU, recieved home court advantage in the first round of play. The Vikings were led by Shaunteva Ashley, who has been hot as of late, with 30 points in the win over the Dragons. Wayne State
is the lone conference opponent that both the Vikings and Wolves have not beaten this season.

Last Match-Up

In the final road weekend of the NSIC regular season for Northern State, the Wolves fell to the Vikings 62-79. Riley Nordgaard and Shaunteva Ashley led the Viking attack with 21 adn 19 points respectively; while the Wolves were led by Megan Mutchler who nabbed 18. Augie forced 25 turnovers in the match-up for 34 points which made the clear difference in the game.
