Sioux Falls, S.D. – After a close night with Wayne State yesterday, the Northern State University women's basketball team dropped their second game of the weekend to Augustana College, 62-79. The Wolves slide to 19-5 overall and 15-5 in the NSIC, heading into the final week of regular-season conference play.
Northern State was led by
Megan Mutchler who drained 18 points in the loss. Mutchler recorded one of the team's five three point baskets in the game and shot 50 percent from the floor. NSU key players,
Alison Kusler and
Rachel Krogman each added 13 points in the match-up. Silenced a night ago,
Kara Hofschild shot 75 percent from the floor while scoring eight points in the game and adding five assists.
The Wolves out-rebounded the Vikings 37-23 and shot 45.8 percent from field goal range, however were unable to cut down on costly turnovers for the second night in a row. Augie scored 34 points off Northern's 25 turnovers in the game. NSU led only once in the game and forced only one Viking turnover in the first half of play. The NSU defense was unable to stop the Vikings from the three-point range as they connected for 12 made hoops from beyond the arc.
The Wolves will return home next weekend to round out the final weekend of regular season basketball play against University of Mary and Minot State. Northern fans are reminded to participate in the annual "I Hate Winter" weekend from Wachs Arena featuring a variety of events. The Wolves will tip-off with the Marauders Friday at 6 p.m. and with the Beavers Saturday at 5 p.m. in Aberdeen.
