Northern State once again overcame a slow start Saturday and had a big second half as the Wolves rallied to beat Minot State 83-72 to close its seven game homestand at Wachs Arena. The Wolves shot 67 percent in the second half and scored 52 to points to erase a six-point deficit at halftime.

Northern improves to 8-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in NSIC play while the Beavers drop to 5-3 and 1-2 in league play. Minot shot nearly 62 percent in the first half of play while the Wolves made 38 percent from the floor in the opening stanza.

Despite Minot making nine of its first 11 shots, the Wolves kept the deficit to single digits in the opening half, trailing by as many as nine with just over a minute to play before DJ Pollard's three-pointer made it a 37-31 advantage for the Beavers at the break.

The Wolves used a 9-4 run to open the second half to take their first lead since the opening bucket of the game, 42-41 with 16:56 left to play. Much of the half was a back-and-forth affair before Northern went on an 8-0 spurt midway through to take a 63-55 lead with just over eight minutes to play. The Wolves wouldn't trail the rest of the way and even built the lead up to as many as 13 points late in the half.

Tydan Storrusten led the Wolves with a career-high 22 points in the win. Storrusten also added three steals, three assists and three rebounds on the night. Pollard had probably his best game in a Wolves uniform Saturday as he scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Storrusten and Pollard were the only two Wolves in double figures. Justin Decker and Skye Warwick each added eight points apiece and Seth Bachand scored seven and pulled-down a team-best seven boards in the win. Mitch White had seven points, four rebounds and five assists in a great all-around effort for NSU.

Northern shot 50 percent (25-for-50) from the field in the win and went 10-of-20 from three-point range. The Beavers shot 49 percent (23-of-47) and were 8-of-14 from three-point range in the contest. Minot made 18-of-28 shots from the free-throw line (64.3 percent) while the Wolves made 23-of-28 for an 82 percent clip.

Minot held a slight 30-29 advantage in rebounding in the game and also held a 28-26 edge in paint points. The Wolves bench doubled its production over Minot as the NSU reserves scored 32 points to the Beavers' 16. Northern scored 12 points off 11 Beaver turnovers while Minot scored seven off of NSU's five turnovers. The five turnovers are a season-low for the Wolves.

Saturday's game was the last for the Wolves at home in the year 2014 as the next three contests will be played on the road. NSU travels next weekend to face Minnesota Duluth on Friday and St. Cloud State in a Saturday tilt.
