Women's Basketball Prepares for Marauders and Beavers in NSIC Week Two

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball team rebounds out their seven game home stand this weekend versus University of Mary and Minot State. The NSIC contests are set for Friday at 6 p.m., versus the Marauders, and Saturday and 5 p.m., versus the Beavers. Northern is 7-0 on the year and 1-0 in Northern Sun play, while leading the North Division.
 
Northern moves into the first full weekend of NSIC play with a seven game win streak and a No. 5 national ranking. The Wolves have spent the last five games in the confines of Wachs Arena, out-scoring their opponents 365-229 and recording many season and career highs. Rachel Krogman entered the NSU 1,000 point club Saturday evening, as she tallied 21 points and ten rebounds in the 74-42 win over MSU Moorhead. Krogman now sits just six rebounds shy of 700 for her career. Paige Waytashek was solid for the Wolves averaging 11 points, three rebounds and two assists while shooting 50 percent from the floor. NSU continues to see production from their "bigs", leading the conference in defensive rebounds and tallying over 30 points in the paint in their last five contests. Northern must continue to play well in the paint and pressure their opponents defensively. 
 
About U-Mary 

The Marauders were selected 11th in the preseason coaches' poll, starting the year with three losses. U-Mary bounced back with two wins, before opening the NSIC season with a 57-56 win over Minot State. Dietz led the team with 17 points, followed by Larson and Clarke with 11 and ten points respectively.

NSU vs. MARY All-Time
 
Northern is 30-13 all-time versus the Marauders with a 1-1 spilt a season ago. Mary came out to take early season game 83-87, a day after NSU fell to Minot State. The Wolves however answered back to finish the regular season 73-59 victory at home. Rachel Krogman led the team with 22 points in the loss, while tallying 13 in the win. Sadie Stotesbery matched Krogman's 13 in the victory.
 
About Minot State
 
The ninth team in the league preseason, started the year on a high note going a perfect 5-0 in non-conference play. The Beavers however fell to the Marauders on the road in the Northern Sun opener. Morgan Klose led the team with 12 points in the loss. The two teams matched up statistically, however U-Mary was able to connect for the decisive three point basket and the win.
 
NSU vs. MSU All-Time

The Wolves are 22-5 all-time versus the Beavers. In 2013-14 NSU and Minot split on the year with each team winning at home. Northern fell 68-75 in the opening full weekend of NSIC play. The Wolves came back to take a 59-49 victory at home in the final week of regular season play. Krogman led the team in the win with 19 points, while Waytashek scored 15 in the loss.
