Northern Tops Minnesota Duluth 62-46 in Conference Play

Duluth, Minn. – The Wolves streak stayed alive Friday night, as Northern defeated Minnesota Duluth 62-46 on the road. The 10-0 Wolves continue to lead the North division as they head to St. Cloud State tomorrow. The Wolves and Huskies are the two remaining un-beaten teams in the NSIC North.

Rachel Krogman led the Wolves attack with her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and bringing in 11 boards. Rachel shot a season high 85.7 percent from the floor, while going a perfect 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. Krogman was followed by fellow seniors Sadie Stotesbery and Megan Mutchler with 13 and 12 points respectively. The duo also combined for five rebounds apiece in the win. Paige Waytashek connected for two of the teams' three lone range balls, scoring six on the night.

Northern trailed for the first team this season as the two teams entered their respective locker rooms at the half with a score of 28-26. The Wolves however entered half two with a fire, taking the lead to double-digits just six minutes in. NSU shot 51.9 percent from field goal range in the match-up, while holding the Bulldogs to a mere 29.6 percent. Duluth also struggled from the free-throw line at 66.7 percent for the game. The game sealer for the Wolves was the 24 points off of 18 UMD turnovers.

As the Wolves lead lengthened the reserves entered the game, led by Lauren Deadrick with six points and four rebounds. Sami Smith, Kara Hofschild, and Alexis Tappe each notched two scores in the Wolves win.

The NSU defense held Bulldog starters Danielle Flood and Jessica Newman to 16 points apiece in the loss, after each averaging over 20 a weekend ago. Only three other UMD players scored in the contest.

The Wolves will face a test tomorrow in St. Cloud State, as the North Division's un-beaten face off beginning at 4 p.m. from St. Cloud.
