Northern Men to Play First True Road Games of the Season

The Northern State men's basketball team will travel for its first true road contests of the season this weekend as the Wolves will face Minnesota Duluth Friday at 8 p.m. and St. Cloud State Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest.

The Wolves went 6-1 in their recent homestand, with their only loss coming to 14th-ranked MSU Moorhead in the NSIC opener. NSU is led by Seth Bachand who leads the team with 14.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game this season. Bachand ranks 14th in the league in scoring and is the league-leader in rebounding. Bachand is also second in the NSIC with a 69.2 percent shooting percentage and in blocks with 1.8 per game.

Darin Peterka is second on the team and 24th in the conference averaging 12.4 points per game this season. Peterka's 3.1 assists per game rank 13th and his 1.9 steals per contest are second-best in the conference. Skye Warwick continues to light it up from three-point range as he ranks 10th in the NSIC shooting 53.1 percent from beyond the arc. Warwick's 2.9 threes made per game are second-best in the league.

The Wolves split with UMD last season, with each team winning on the other's home court. SCSU won both games over Northern in 2013-14. The Wolves are coming off victories over Mary and Minot State last weekend while the Bulldogs beat Minnesota, Crookston and Bemidji State. St. Cloud beat the Beavers but lost to UMC.

 About the Bulldogs
UMD is 14th in the league in scoring offense averaging 68.9 points per game while its defense allows 63.9 points per, which ranks fourth in the NSIC. The Bulldogs are one of the best teams in the conference in keeping their opponents off the glass, as they rank second in rebounding defense with 28.2 per game. Duluth ranks third in the league in free throw percentage hitting 74.3 percent at the line. Brett Ervin ranks second in the league in scoring averaging 18 points per contest. Pierre Newton leads the team and is 14th in the NSIC in rebounding with 6.3 a game. Justin Byrd leads the league in steals with 1.9 a contest.

About the Huskies
SCSU is fifth in the conference in scoring offense at 78.9 points per game and is eighth in scoring defense, allowing 70.2 points per. The Huskies rank second in the NSIC in steals per game with 8.9. St. Cloud's plus-five turnover margin is also second-best in the league. The Huskies rank sixth in three-point percentage defense (34.5) and seventh in three-point shooting (36.8). Jordan Poydras' 14.5 points per game rank 11th in the conference, while James Fort is eighth in the league in rebounding with seven boards a contest and is tops in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 73.2 percent per game.
