Kearney, Neb. – The Northern State University swim team recorded nine first place finishes, leading the Wolves to a 130-130 tie with the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers. NSU improved from a season ago as they fell to UNK 126-79 from Aberdeen. The dual marks the final of its kind in 2014-15, with the Wolves heading into the heat of the invitational season.
The Northern relay teams continued to shine both starting and ending the dual with a first place mark. The squad of
Jamie Fuse,
Eliza Jacob,
Kamie Wagar, and
Kayla Sproles took the opening event, the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:57.01. At 2:05.07, the NSU 'B' relay of
Megan Hanson,
Shannon Fines,
Katelyn Rhodes, and
Amy Wockenfuss notched a second place mark in the same event. Rhodes and Sproles with the lead and end legs, alongside teammates
Brianna Iverson and
Eliza Jacob, rounded out the dual with a 3:49.80 first place mark in the 400 freestyle relay.
Eliza Jacob and
Kayla Sproles led the NSU women with four first place finishes each. Jacob took the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.53 and the 50 breaststroke at 33.51 for her individual top marks on the night. Sproles added individual wins in back to back events with a 25.61 finish time in the 50 freestyle and 56.42 finish in the 100 freestyle.
Amy Wockenfuss followed Sproles in third, with a time of 28.08 in the 50 freestyle.
Kamie Wagar added an individual first of her own in event six, the 50 butterfly, hitting the wall at 29.06. Wagar also took third in the 50 breaststroke at 36.03 just behind
Eliza Jacob.
Jamie Fuse and
Katelyn Rhodes took the top two places in the 100 butterfly, with Fuse in first at 1:03.54. Rhodes recorded her individual win of the night in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.63.
Brianna Iverson and
Mikaela Waiflein finished two-three in the mile race (1650 free) with times of 19:43.08 and 19:49.33. Iverson notched her second individual top three finish of the night in the 500 freestyle, with a time of 5:49.80 in second place.
Megan Hanson notched two individual second place finishes in the 50 backstroke, at 32.05, and the 400 individual medley, at 5:11.84. Waiflein also place fourth in the 400 IM at 5:20.12.
The women will take a week break before heading to the Rochester Invite, December 5
th-7
th. Northern is set to swim beginning at 5 p.m. on the 5
th, with prelims and finals beginning at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on both the 6
th and 7
th.
