NSU Travels to MSU Moorhead Saturday

The Northern State football team will play on the road for the third time this season as the Wolves travel to Moorhead, Minn., to face MSU Moorhead in a 2 p.m. contest from Nemzek Stadium.

Northern comes into the game with a 3-2 record this season and is 2-0 on the road. The Wolves are looking to win their third straight road contest for the first time since winning six consecutive away from home spanning across the 1999 and 2000 seasons. The last time NSU has won three road games in a single season is 2003.

Northern is coming off a 42-14 victory last Saturday over Minot State in the 95th annual Gypsy Days game. Jared Jacobson threw a career-best five touchdowns in the win and garnered NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. Three of Jacobson's touchdowns went to Jared Hannigan who had five catches for 141 yards.

Jacobson enters Saturday seventh in the league in total offense as he is averaging 244 yards per game. Nicholas Truen is eighth in the NSIC in rushing averaging 83.6 yards per game. Twins Channing and Zachery Barber are second and fourth, respectively in the league in kickoff return average. Channing is averaging 34.2 per return while Zachery is averaging 32.8. Channing is also third in the conference with three interceptions this season.

Scouting the Dragons
MSU Moorhead is 1-4 on the season and is coming off a 63-28 loss to fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Dragons are fifth in the league in rushing as they average 209 yards per contest. MSUM is also fifth in the NSIC in total offense averaging 459.6 yards per game. The Moorhead rushing attack is led by Zayne Medhaug and Jake Hodge as Medhaug has rushed for 412 yards and three touchdowns this season while Hodge has 398 yards and four scores. Hodge is also averaging 225 yards passing this season and has nine passing TDs.

Defensively, the Dragons are led by outside linebacker Aaron Bohl who leads the team with 47 tackles this season, which is sixth-most in the league. Moorhead has five players that have recorded a sack on the year. MSUM is led by fourth year head coach Steve Laqua who is 8-30 at Moorhead.

Last Meeting
The Dragons defeated Northern in last season's Gypsy Days game, in a 47-46 thriller. The two teams combined for over 1,100 yards in the contest. NSU tight end Conner Doherty caught four passes for 108 yards and a score in the loss.

The Series
The Wolves lead the all-time series 27-21-1 over the Dragons. Prior to last season's loss, NSU had won four straight against Moorhead.

The Forecast
Temperatures are expected to be in the low-to-mid-60s by kickoff on Saturday with mostly sunny skies and strong winds at over 20 MPH out of the south.
