Photo GalleryAberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University swim team crushed Concordia Moorhead 137-58 from the Aberdeen YMCA. The Wolves racked up a multitude of great racing times, taking first in 10-of-11 events.
Megan Hanson,
Kayla Sproles, and
Katelyn Rhodes each recorded three first places finishes on the night, leading the Wolves to victory.
Northern started and ended the meet on high notes, with their relay teams taking first in each race. NSU opened the meet with the 200 medley team of
Jamie Fuse,
Megan Hanson,
Kamie Wagar, and
Amy Wockenfuss who finished in first with a time of 1:59.33. The night cap, of the 400 free relay consisting of
Kayla Sproles,
Katelyn Rhodes,
Brianna Iverson, and
Eliza Jacob took first, with a mark of 3:56.62 edging the Cobbers by nearly 20 seconds.
Kayla Sproles continued her great start to the season adding two individual first place marks. In the fourth event of the night, Sproles finished with an even 25 second mark in the 50 free. She later went on to take first in the 500 free, hitting the wall at 5:20.61.
Garnering two individual first place finishes of her own was
Katelyn Rhodes in the 100 butterfly and 200 free. Rhodes finished with a time of 1:01.64 in the fly and 2:03.44 in the free.
Megan Hanson was the third Wolf of the night to record two individual first place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 400 individual medley. Hanson finished the 100 back at 1:06.87 and out raced her opponent by 25 seconds in the 400 IM, with a time of 5:06.34.
Brianna Iverson held strong for the Wolves in the rather difficult, 1650 free, taking first with a time of 19:40.67. Finishing about 12 second later was
Mikaela Waiflein with her best time and finish of the season. Waiflein took third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 100 breaststroke as well.
Northern finished one, two, three in the 50 free with
Kamie Wagar and
Amy Wockenfuss just behind Sproles leaving only two seconds among the trio.
Eliza Jacob came in just behind Rhodes in the 200 free, giving the Wolves a one, two finish in event three. Jacob went on to take top mark in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:10.77.
Kamie Wagar recorded two second place spots on the night in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke, while
Shannon Fines notched two third place finishes in the 400 IM and 100 butterfly.
Northern's strong showing propels them into their second and final home meet of the season next Friday from the Aberdeen YMCA. The Wolves will face off with Minnesota Morris beginning at 6 p.m..
