Volleyball Falls at No. 13 Wayne State

The Northern State volleyball team lost on the road Friday night at 13th-ranked Wayne State, 3-1. After ending the first set on a 7-1 run and winning 26-24, the Wolves dropped the next three sets 25-14, 25-22 and 25-23. NSU drops to 11-4 overall on the season and 4-3 in NSIC play.

Northern was led by Kelsey Chambers' 15 kills in the loss, Chambers along with Annika van Oosbree, each led the Wolves with 14 digs in the match. Mandy Kurosky added 10 kills for the Wolves while Tori Biach added nine, while hitting .412 and Cari McGarvie chipped in with eight kills.

McGarvie and Hailey Busch were both active at the net defensively as each recorded six total blocks to lead Northern on the night. The Wolves had 12 total blocks as a team while WSC (13-2, 6-1 NSIC) recorded seven total.

Northern was edged in hitting as a team as it recorded a .266 attack percentage while the Wildcats hit at a .279 clip. The Wildcats also recorded 10 aces in the match while Northern had five aces and eight serving errors.

Drew Smith, who entered the night second in the nation in assists per set (13.3 per) had 44 assists in the loss. Smith also added seven digs and, along with Busch, had a pair of aces to lead NSU. Renee Hoffman added nine digs in the back row on the night.

The rest of the weekend doesn't get any easier for the Wolves as they now travel to face rival and 16th-ranked Augustana in a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
