th-ranked Augustana in a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
NSU is 0-2 against AVCA top-25 teams so far this season, having lost at fifth-ranked Nebraska Kearney and third-ranked Concordia-St. Paul earlier this year. Northern went 3-5 against ranked squads a season ago.
The Wolves enter the weekend 11-3 overall and 4-2 in NSIC play. Northern won all three of its matches last week at home, sweeping U-Mary and Winona State and winning in four sets against Upper Iowa. NSU is looking for its first road win of the season this weekend.
Setter
Drew Smith enters the weekend second in the nation in assists per set this season averaging 13.13. Smith is setting up a NSU team that is hitting .293 overall, a mark that ranks third in the country. Middle hitter
Cari McGarvie is second on the team with 137 kills this season and her .443 attack percentage is third-best in the country.
Wayne State is 12-2 overall and 5-1 in league play. The Wildcats' 10-match winning streak was snapped last Saturday against second ranked Minnesota Duluth. WSC has three players with 155 kills or more on the year and are led by Katie Hughes' 163. Elizabeth Gebhardt is second on the squad with 158 kills and Alyssa Frauendorfer is third with 155 and leads the team with a .321 hitting percentage.
The Wolves took both matches last season against Wayne in five sets.
Tori Biach had 19 kills in the two matches and hit .415 against the Wildcats while Chambers had 32 kills total and McGarvie added 25. Smith recorded a double-double in each match as she averaged 56 assists and 17.5 digs per match.
Augustana is 11-3 and 4-2 in NSIC play. The Vikings' two conference losses have come against UMD and Wayne. AC is led by Courtney Ysker's 205 kills this season while Ashley Wilson has 162 on the year. Libero Tahlyr Banks leads the team averaging 4.69 digs per set while Ysker is second on the squad averaging just over three per.
Northern went 1-2 against the Vikings last season. After getting swept in both matches during the regular season, the Wolves responded in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament with a sweep of their own over Augustana in Sioux Falls.
Kelsey Chambers led NSU in the win with 16 kills and hit .387. As a team, Northern hit .283 in the match while AC hit .178.
