Volleyball Set For a Pair of Road Contests This Weekend

The Northern State volleyball team continues its three-match week this weekend as the Wolves travel to face Minnesota, Crookston in a 7 p.m. match Friday and Bemidji State at 5 p.m. Saturday.

NSU enters the weekend 13-6 overall and 6-5 in the NSIC and is coming off a come-from-behind five-set victory Tuesday night over Minot State. Kelsey Chambers tied a career-high with 23 kills in the win while Mandy Kurosky's 18 kills set a new career-best for her.

Minnesota, Crookston is 9-10 overall and 3-7 in league play this season. The Golden Eagles are led by Brittany Looker's 299 kills. Looker's 4.33 kills per set lead the league and her 13.68 attacks per set are the second-most in the nation. The Wolves swept UMC earlier this season at the NSU Dacotah Bank Volleyball Classic. Northern hit .400 as a team in the win to clinch the tournament title.

Bemidji State is 3-16 overall and 1-10 in the NSIC this season. Jessica Yost leads the Beavers with 207 kills this season while Amanda Tronick is second on the team with 160 kills. Setter Courtney Volkmann leads the team averaging 8.72 assists per set.

Northern swept the Beavers in the two's lone meeting in 2013 in Aberdeen. Tori Biach and Chambers each led the Wolves with 13 kills in the win. Biach hit .765 in the match.
