Wolves Bounce Back with Win over Dogs

Duluth, Minn. - The Northern State University women's basketball team bounced back from a loss a night ago, with a 70-59 win over the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth. The Wolves stay atop the NSIC North with a record of 11-3 in the conference and 15-3 overall.

Down by eight entering halftime, the Wolves were shooting 39.1 percent from the floor. Alison Kusler led the team once again with 24 points in the game and six rebounds. Kusler was a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line while adding seven assists in the match-up. After five three point baskets a night ago, Kusler connected for the teams lone long range score of the night.

Northern took full advantage of 16 Bulldog turnovers, scoring 24 points in the game. Solid paint play, from Rachel Krogman and Sadie Stotesbery specifically, added 24 points to the team attack. Krogman tallied 19 points and five rebounds in the win, while Stotesbery added 13 points going 6-7 from the floor. Kara Hofschild started her first game of the season scoring three points, while adding some fresh blood to the floor.

The second half surge of 41 points led NSU to the 11 point victory over UMD. The Wolves pulled together well as a team shooting 58.3 percent from the floor and giving up only four turnovers to their nine in the first 20 minutes of play. Northern was able to take advantage of late Duluth fouls scoring ten points off of free-throws in the last two minutes of the game.

The Wolves will return home next weekend as they take on Winona State and Upper Iowa. Tip-offs are set for 6 and 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday night with the Warriors and Peacocks.
