Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University women's basketball team is back from the Holiday break on the road at Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Sioux Falls this Friday and Saturday. The two games set for 6 p.m. from Marshall, and 4 p.m. from Sioux Falls will be the first contests of 2014 for the Wolves.

Northern comes off the holiday break with a three game in streak against MN Crookston, Bemidji State, and MSU Moorhead. Northern only matches up with the Mustangs and Cougars once each season, coming out on top in both match-ups a year ago. Alison Kusler continues to be hot for the Wolves as she has scored double digit points in the last six games, and currently sits at 971 career points. Northern has proved the importance of lower turnovers and rebounding in notching wins this season. Solid bench play continues to add a much needed spark to the Wolves squad scoring much needed points in wins this season. NSU looks to increase their shooting percentage from three point range as they currently sit at 13th in the NSIC as a team.

Southwest Minnesota State University

The Mustangs are off to a  bumpy start in the NSIC unable to come away with a conference victory. SMSU returned all five starters from a year ago, including 12 letterwinners. The squad finished 4-25 and 2-20 (NSIC) a season ago.

The 2012-13 match-up was won by the Wolves with a score of 64-46 from Aberdeen. Rachel Krogman connected for 19 points in the game, while NSU out-rebounded the Mustangs 50-36. Bree Holleman added 14 points for SMSU, however was unable to secure the victory for her squad.

University of Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls comes of a 12-15 and 9-14 (NSIC) record from a season ago. The Cougars returned eight from last season while adding several newcomers to the roster. Laura Johnson returns as the leading scorer for USF as she enters her senior season.

A Season Ago

The Cougars fell to the Wolves 48-54 from Wachs Arena in 2012-13 contest. Kusler and Krogman notched 21 and 18 points respectively in the game for the Wolves, while Laura Johnson was the only returning Cougar in double-digit points with ten. Turnovers almost led to an NSU defeat, as USF scored a total of 20 points off them in the game.
