Wrestling Travels to UNK Midwest Duals Saturday

The Northern State wrestling team travels to Kearney, Neb., for the Nebraska-Kearney Midwest Duals Saturday. The Wolves will have four dual matches on the day.

NSU opens the day against Fort Hays State at 9 a.m. The Tigers are 4-2 in duals on the season with their only two losses coming to No. 4 Newberry 22-12 and fifth-ranked Central Oklahoma 22-16. FHSU has beaten the seventh-, eighth- and 10th-ranked teams in the nation so far this year.

The Wolves' next opponent will be Newman at 11:30 in the morning. Newman comes into the weekend with a 0-4 record this season.

Northern opens its afternoon session against host-school Nebraska-Kearney. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start. UNK is 5-3 in duals this season including two wins over NSIC foes in U-Mary and Minot State. The Lopers' three losses this season are all to Division I schools (Virginia Tech, UT-Chattanooga and Arizona State).

The Wolves finish the day with a 4 p.m. dual with San Francisco State. The 19th-ranked Gators have two wins over top-25 opponents this season, defeating No. 11 Mercyhurst 21-15 and destroying 14th-ranked Simpson (Calif.) 51-0. SFSU is 3-1 in duals on the year.

Northern is 2-2 this year in dual matches and is coming off a 27-16 loss to MSU Moorhead last Saturday in the Wolves' NSIC opener. Earlier in the week, Northern defeated Jamestown 32-15. Senior Blake Lundgren had a big week for the Wolves at 165 pounds as he tallied to pins on the week.
