Assem Marei had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Zach Monaghan scored 20 and dished-out 12 assists as 12
th-ranked Minnesota State toppled Northern State Friday night inside Wachs Arena 91-80.
The Wolves (11-4, 6-3 NSIC) were held to 38.8 percent shooting from the field (26-for-67) while the Mavericks hit 53.4 percent of their shots (31-for-58). The loss was Northern's first at home this season as NSU falls to 7-1 in Aberdeen.
Tydan Storrusten led the Wolves with a career-high 20 points in the loss. Storrusten went 7-for-13 from the field, hitting a pair of three-pointers and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Storrusten also tied a career-best with seven rebounds Friday night.
Seth Bachand had a solid night for NSU as he went 4-for-4 from the floor and scored 12 points to go along with a team-high nine rebounds before he fouled out of the game.
Jared Hannigan added 11 points while
Darin Peterka scored 10 in the loss.
The Mavericks (14-2, 8-1 NSIC) out-scored NSU in the paint, 42-26 and also held a 16-11 edge on second chance points. The Wolves bench was solid again on the night as the Northern reserves outscored the MSU bench 21-9 in the contest. The Wolves also held a 40-36 advantage on the boards and collected a season-high 18 offensive rebounds.
Both teams were solid from the charity stripe on the evening. MSU went 23-for-32 (71.9 percent) while Northern tied a season-best by going 18-for-22 from the line (81.8 percent).
Minnesota State used a 22-8 run early in the first half to open up a 13-point on the Wolves with 8:11 to go in the first half. Northern would whittle the lead down to eight before the break and went into the locker room trailing 43-35. The Wolves scored the first six points of the second half and cut the MSU lead to just two with 17:44 to go at 43-41, but two points was as close as NSU would get the rest of the way however as MSU wouldn't relinquish its lead and led by as many as 14 points in the second half.
The Wolves return to action Saturday night as Concordia-St. Paul comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest. The Golden Bears fell Friday night to MSU Moorhead 100-85.
