Topeka, Kan. - The Northern State University Women's Soccer team started off the 2013 season with a bang in a 1-0 win over Washburn University. The Wolves begin the season 1-0 as the Ichabods fall to 0-1.

The Wolves took the field with five newcomers at starting positions, including:
Brittany Tietz (GK),
Cydney Martin (MF),
Anna Bondy (MF),
Kay Hernandez (F) and Bobyye Pendleton (D). Scoring the first and only goal of the game was NSU freshman,
Anna Bondy at 22 minutes and 27 seconds; recording her first career goal as a Wolf. The unassisted score came from about ten yards out, after a midfield ball win by Bondy. The Pierre native lived up to expectations making an instant impact for Northern in game one.

After spending her freshman year at Bemidji State, sophomore
Brittany Tietz recorded a total of five saves in her first 45 minutes of play in a Wolf Uniform, shutting out the Ichabods. Tietz continued the shutout through the second half racking up a total of 7 saves in 90 minutes of play, notching her first win of the season.

Bondy led the NSU attack throughout the game taking three shots and two shots on goal, followed closely by Hernandez with two shots and one shot on goal. Pendleton also recorded her first career shot with 13 minutes to go in the game. A total of 19 players took the field for the Wolves in the season opener.

NSU continues the non-conference road trip, traveling to Northwest Missouri State for a Sunday match-up with the Bearcats. Game time is set for 2 p.m. from Maryville, MO.
