Wolves Fall in Hard Fought Battle with Mavericks

- A hard fought game between the two teams, saw Minnesota State University come out on top of Northern State University in Sunday soccer play, with a score of 2-1. The Wolves of Northern State drop to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC, while the Mavericks of Minnesota State continue a 25 conference game win streak to imrpove to 7-1 on the year and 5-0 in the league.

Two quick goals by MSU forward Korey Kronforst put NSU down thirty minutes into the first half of play. Senior Hilary Peterson answered with her first goal of the season just nine minutes later. Peterson header into the top left corner of the goal came from an Amelia Taylor corner kick. These would be the only three goals scored between the two teams.

The game saw appearances by two different goalkeepers for Northern due to injuries in the game. Shaina Stein, who started and ended the game for the Wolves, recorded her first appearance on the year racking up four saves. Stein was given the decision in the game letting two goals passed her in the first half of play. Brittany Tietz entered the game mid-way through the first half before leaving with only 16 minutes to play. Tietz notched three saves in her stint to hold the Mavericks. Leading the game for the Wolves was sophomore Allie Macdonald with four shots on the day, one of which was on goal. Macdonald was closely followed by Anna Bondy who recorded three shots of her own.

Northern State will take the road next week to take on Upper Iowa and Winona State. The Wolves will face off the with Peacocks October 5th with game time set for 1 p.m. and the Warriors October 6th with a 1 p.m. start time as well.
