Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University Women's Soccer team earned their third victory of the year in a 4-3 thriller with University of Jamestown. The Wolves improve to 3-0 on the year as the Jimmies slide to 1-6. Northern will now move to the conference portion of the season with a strong start.
The two teams were scoreless through the first half of play. The wolves definitely had their chances as they out-shot the Jimmies ten to five.
Jamestown was on the board first in the game with an unassisted goal by Hannah Langethm, 16 minutes into the second half.
Alyssa Wilde answered back for the Wolves scoring her second goal of the year off a
Kay Hernandez serve. In exciting fashion, Wilde scored again heading the ball into the top right corner of the goal putting the Wolves up by one. Bobyye Pendleton continued Northern's attack with a penalty kick goal just minutes after Wilde .Jamestown stayed in the game, scoring two more goals off a penalty kick and a save by
Brittany Tietz. Recording her first goal of the year,
Miranda Brower scored with a bullet to the top right corner, securing the victory for NSU.
Northern shot a season high of 22 with seven shots on goal. Tietz racked up eight saves for the Wolves in her third win of the season, bringing her season total to 20. Sophomore
Allie Macdonald added five shots and three shots on goal to her year totals with a couple close chances. Twenty-one Wolves took the field throughout the game with 12 taking at least one shot.
The Wolves begin conference play this Sunday as they take on the Dragons of Minnesota State University Moorhead. Game time is set for 3 p.m. from Moorhead.
