Cold Second Half Hands Wolves Loss to No. 18 Augustana

Aberdeen, S.D. - Scoring 36 points in the second half #18 in the nation, Augustana College defeated Northern State University 66-57. The Vikings, placed third overall in the conference, improve to 17-5 on the year and 13-5 in league play, as the Wolves move to a 14-8 mark overall and 10-8 in the loop.

Junior Alison Kusler shot for a career high 27 points on the night, scoring 16 in the second half. Kusler went 5-9 from three point range adding six rebounds to the team total of 44. As a team NSU fought for 14 offensive rebounds, leading to 23 second chance points. Sophmore Rachel Krogman scored eight for the Wolves with ten rebounds.

At the half the Wolves would lead the Vikings by one with a score of 31-30, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor. Augie came out hot in the second half leading by 14 at the 11:24 mark and shooting 48 percent, while holding NSU to a mere 23.1 percent in the half.

Strong defensive play by the Vikings would force 18 turnovers for the Wolves, resulting in 15 points. Augie would only allow six turnovers as a team as they shot 41.4 percent from the floor. Alex Feeney was the top scorer for the Vikings with 13 points. Off the bench Andrea Whitney would add 12 points and five rebounds.

Sophmore Megan Mutcher pulled in seven rebounds with some strong defensive play in the paint.

Northern is on the road again next week in North Division play against Minnesota Duluth, 6 p.m. Friday night, and St. Cloud State University, 4 p.m. Saturday. The wolves then return home for the regular season final as the play from the Aberdeen Civic Arena.
