Beavers Snap Wolves Win Streak in Overtime

Minot, N.D. - The Northern State University Women's Basketball team suffered their first loss of the season to Minot State University in overtime, 68-75. The Wolves are now 5-1 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play, while the Beavers improve to 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in the loop.
 
With only seconds remaining in the game Alison Kusler tied up the game for NSU bringing to two teams into overtime with a score of 59-59. Kusler led the Wolves on the night with 11 points and 14 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season, while adding four assits. Alison continued to shot well from the free-throw line going a perfect 6-6 on the night. Paige Waytashek led the team in overall scoring with 15 points, 12 of which were from three point range. NSU held five players in double digit scores including Megan Mutchler and Devon Brecke with 11 points alongside Kusler and Rachel Krogman with 14. Krogman was just shy of the double-double hitting the glass for nine rebounds and blocking a total of three Beaver shots.
 
The Wolves were able to come back from a 26-37 deficit after the first half, however were unable to restrain the Beavers who tallied 16 points in overtime to take the win. Minot out-shot the Wolves by nearly 13 percent in the game, while missing only five free-throws. The 11 Northern State turnovers led to 16 total Minot points on the night. Although the Wolves scored 17 second chance and bench points, they were unable to hold off Beaver forward, Carly Boag, and guard, Alisha Jones, who scored 21 and 19 points respectively in the game.
 
Northern looks to bounce back tomorrow night as they take on the Marauders of U-Mary with game time set for 4 p.m. from Bismarck.
