Wolves Women Take on Dragons in NSIC Opener

11/28/2013 10:16:00 AM

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University Women's Basketball team will begin the NSIC conference season this Saturday as they travel to Minnesota State University Moorhead. The Wolves are 4-0 on the year wracking up wins against SD School of Mines, Black Hills State, Central Methodist, and Mayville State.

Thus far in 2013, NSU has seen mutiple career and season highs from many different players. Senior Alison Kusler is on the hunt to reach 1,000 career points in her four years at Northern. Taking after former No. 10 Emily Becken, Paige Wayatashek (also a Lino Lakes native) is making a splash for the Wolves in her freshmen season playing a majority of the minutes and starting all four games. Northern has seen solid bench play in the first few weeks along with an overall decrease in turnovers.

In 2012, NSU and MSUM spilt their two games on the season with each team coming out on top while on the road. In the Wolves win, Kusler scored 25 points with Krogman just behind at 14.

The key for NSU is to continue solid defensive play, as well as point scoring off the bench and in the paint. Watch out for junior Rachel Krogman who already has three double-doubles this season. Game time is set for 4 p.m. between the two teams on Saturday.
