Minot, N.D. - With only two games remaining in the regular season for the Northern State University Soccer team, a win was necessary to thrust the team into the NSIC Conference Tournament. NSU however was unable to come away the victor in a 0-1 loss with Minot State University. Northern now sits at 8-8-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the conference while Minot earns an important three points and moves to 6-7-3 on the year and 6-6-2 in the league.
Going in to today's game the Wolves sat just one spot and one point below the Beavers in the NSIC standings. Minot held the eighth position moving into the final week of play; this eighth spot in crucial as the top eight at the end of the regular season qualify for the conference tournament.
The two teams entered the half scoreless with ten shots total; four for Northern State and six for Minot State. The Beavers scored the only goal of the game close to 20 minutes into period two. This is all they would need to secure the victory and their place in the conference tournament.
Allie Macdonald led the attack for NSU with three shots on the day, one of which was on goal.
NSU now sits well under the seventh and eighth seeded teams in the conference, with very slim chances to make the tournament. The season however is not over for the Wolves as they return home for their final game with University of Mary. Senior day for Northern will begin at 1 p.m. from Jerde Field this Sunday November 3
